Naval Sink Mines
A MXU 735C nose piece is fixed to a naval mine at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, Jan.16, 2020. The new nose piece has six small holes drilled in it to allow water to move more efficiently around the mine when dropped from a B-52 Stratofortress. It was tested to determine if the water movement helped with more accurate placement of the mines. Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 307th Maintenance Squadron and their active duty counterparts in the 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron teamed up to prepare the mines for testing.
