Burgess takes the reins of 343 BS

Lt. Col. Robert N. Burgess, commander, 343rd Bomb Squadron, and his wife Martha, cut the cake after the change of command ceremony for the 343 BS at the 93rd Bomb Squadron Headquarters building on Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Oct. 21, 2013. Burgess became the third commander for the 343 BS, which was officially reactivated on April 1, 2010, at Barksdale. The unit’s rich history dates back to World War II, where for combat operations against the enemy, the 343 BS earned the Distinguished Unit Citation for actions in North Africa and Sicily, August 1942 - August 1943. It was awarded another DUC for participation in the low-level assault on oil refineries at Ploesti, Rumania, Aug. 1, 1943. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Jeff Walston)
