Pitsenbarger Award

Staff Sgt. Danielle Dial, 917 Maintenance Squadron, journeyman aircraft mechanic, receives his Associate Degree in Applied Science Aviation Maintenance Technology from the Community College of the Air Force during ceremonies May 28, 2009. Sergeant Dial is also the 917th Wing’s Pitsenbarger Award recipient. The Air Force Association, through its education subsidiary, the Aerospace Education Foundation, a wards the grant in memory of Airman 1st Class William H. Pitsenbarger, the Air Force’s second Medal of Honor recipient since becoming a separate service in 1947. A1C Pitsenbarger was a pararescue medic who participated in more than 300 rescue missions during the Vietnam War. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Ryan Ivacic)
