JROTC cadets attend leadership school
Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadets Jessica Moser and Julliane Bledsoe familiarize themselves with a modified M870 12 gauge shotgun under the watchful eye of 2nd Security Forces Squadron member Tech. Sgt. David Parker, during a small arms briefing in Hoban Hall at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., June 18, 2009, during a “Summer Leadership School” for JROTC cadets. Barksdale AFB personnel broke out all manners of equipment for demonstrations and briefing for the cadets on the capabilities of the U.S. Air Force and Barksdale personnel. The eight-day school is designed to encourage the cadet’s leadership skills. Each cadet is chosen by for the school by unit officials after the cadet passes certain criteria. The cadet must also maintain a “C” average in school. Cadets who participated came from high school units in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Most were Air Force JROTC units, but there was also one Marine JROTC unit from Alexandria Senior High School in attendance. The JROTC motto is “Building Citizenship and Character in the Youth of America.” (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
