Transportation Security Administration Officers experience 917th EOD Flight
While at the east reservation EOD range at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., July 11, 2009, Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration Officers from the Shreveport Regional Airport listen attentively as Chief Master Sgt. Martin Wright, 917th Explosive Ordnance Flight, superintendent, explains the effects of explosive blast overpressure and why it is so devastating aboard a flying aircraft. Department of Homeland Security, TSA Officers have the critical responsibility of ensuring explosives are not introduced into a commercial aircraft. Seeing the effect of even a small amount of explosives brings home the importance of what they do. The EOD demonstration allowed them to hear, see and feel explosive materials providing them with firsthand knowledge of the devastating effects of explosives. The experience will help them understand the important role they serve in keeping America safe from terrorism. Providing this educational experience to these officers, assures they have the best training available to detect explosives in order to prevent the introduction of explosive materials into the aviation system.
