Discovery from the cheap seats
Viewed from a location where most people with access to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., can slip in a take a look, the Space shuttle “Discovery” sits majestically atop a modified 747 on the ramp as it is prepared for the next leg of its trip back to the Kennedy Space Center in Orland, Fla., September 21, 2009. Even from the “cheap seats” the display is still magnificent for those who stopped to catch a glimpse or snap the shutter on a chapter that will soon be a part of history. Plans are still in place to retire the space shuttle fleet in 2010. The Discovery was safely delivered to the Kennedy Space Center approximately 12:05p.m., ET. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
