917th MXS Airmen take second at Oktoberfest

The 917th Wing shield garners a 2nd Place award at the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest celebration at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., October 2, 2009. The 917th Wing’s entry, which took five craftsmen to complete, was designed to represent as many aspects of the wing as possible, including munitions, maintenance, and the two flying squadrons. The shield, originally designed to become a part of the new historic display in the 917th headquarters building, was entered into the contest when it was finished ahead of schedule. First Place went to the 8th Air Force, while the 3rd Place prize went to the 608th Air Operations Center. Airmen involved with the design and construction of the shield were Maj. William Magee, 917th Maintenance Squadron, commander, 917th Maintenance Squadron Aircraft Structural Mechanics, Master Sgt. Ronald Harsen, Technical Sgt. Daniel Burns and Staff Sgt. Jason Cohee; and 917th MXS Aircraft Metal Processors, Staff Sgt. Zachary Perry and Senior Airman Andy Decker. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
