45th Fighter Squadron rejoins A-10 community

Lt. Col. Terry McClain, commander, 45th Fighter Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., greets retired Maj. Gen. Robert A. Nester during a reactivation ceremony on Davis-Monthan Jan. 7. The reactivation allowed the historic squadron to rejoin the A-10 Thunderbolt II community under the command of the 917th Wing Operations Group at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. General Nester, who was formerly attached to the unit, once as a student participating in an F-4 Phantom upgrade course and later as the commander of the 45th FS, acted as the guest speaker for the ceremony. Attesting to the rich history of the 45th FS, he shared memories, combat stories and accomplishments of the squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman Jerilyn Quintanilla)
