Walking the line

The 917th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron on Barksdale Air Force Base, La., made up of both 917th personnel and Regular Air Force members attached to the unit, conducts a foreign object damage (FOD) walk on Barksdale’s flight line Jan. 22, 2010. The 917th AMXS walk the flight line every Friday, collecting any type of FOD, and removing it in order to minimize the chances of damage to aircraft on base. FOD has the ability to cause harm to the aircraft by tearing the vehicle’s tires or being ingested into the engine, causing costly internal damage.
