Barksdale celebrates Flag Day
American flags stand tall along Barksdale Boulevard proudly waving to residents and visitors alike as Barksdale Air Force Base, La., commemorates National Flag Day, June 14, 2010. Although not an official federal holiday, June 14, is recognized as the day when the flag of the United States was adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. It wasn’t until 1916, that President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day, and in August 1949, National Flag day was established by an Act of Congress.
