Back in the saddle with STARBASE

Lt. Col. David L. Leedom, director of operations for the 93rd Bomb Squadron, poses with a class of 5th graders from Princeton Elementary School, from Princeton, La., during a STARBASE tour of a B-52 Stratofortress at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Sept. 14, 2010. STARBASE Louisiana, one of 60 national STARBASE sites, is sponsored by the 917th Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command. The program presents an exciting 25-hour hands on/minds on aviation and aerospace curriculum to area 5th grade students and their teachers. Committed to addressing the critical needs in STEM education - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - STARBASE Louisiana introduces its students to exciting STEM education topics, inspiring these young minds to further explore these topics in future course work. STARBASE is dedicated to improving education by providing resources and training to help teachers meet their curriculum needs at the local, state and national level. As an important interface for community, business, educational and military organizations, STARBASE Louisiana also helps develop relationships that provide venues for these organizations to expand our program's outreach and make a difference in our local educational arena.
