Czech Republic welcomes a Cold Warrior
Members of the 917th Wing were able to tour Auschwitz on Sept. 16, 2010. Auschwitz was a network of concentration and extermination camps built and operated in Polish areas by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. In the background, the entrance to camp 2, Auschwitz-Birkenau can be seen. The 917th Wing deployed personnel and a B-52H Stratofortress to Ostrava, Czech Republic on Sept. 15, 2010 in support of the 10th Annual NATO Days in Ostrava air show which is the largest air, army and security show in Central Europe. This marked the first-time a B-52 bomber has visited the Czech Republic. The 917th Wing is located at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Greg Steele)
