Czech Republic welcomes a Cold Warrior
Lt. Col. Joseph “Doc” Jones, 93rd Bomb Squadron commander meets Brigadier General (Ret.) Zdenek Skarvada, at a local gathering in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Sept. 17, 2010. General Skarvada is a former Czechoslovak pilot who flew Hawker Hurricane aircraft for the British Royal Air Force during World War II. Colonel Jones became a part of history as a member of the B-52H Stratofortress aircrew that landed at the Leoš Janácek Airport in support of 10th Annual NATO Days in Ostrava on Sept. 15, 2010. The air show is the largest air, army and security show in Central Europe. This marked the first-time a B-52 bomber has ever visited the Czech Republic. The 93rd BS is assigned under the 917th Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Greg Steele)
