917 CES trains for the unimaginable
Col. John J. Mooney III, commander, 917th Wing, at the nozzle, leads a team of 917th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters into a burning wall of propane flames in an aircraft trainer at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Nov. 5, 2010. Colonel Mooney decided to take up the challenge, in order to experience and get a feel for what Airmen in his command go through on a daily basis. He joined approximately 20 members of the 917 CES in this phase of wartime training, which included the extinguishing of a fire on a large frame aircraft trainer. For the professional firefighters, it was a part of their annual Air Force Certification process for Airport Rescue Firefighting. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
