Change is in the air
Senior Airman Vashone Williams and Staff Sgt. Jason Miles, secure the new 307th Bomb Wing shield in place above the entrance to the 917th Wing Headquarters building at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Dec. 17, 2010. The new sign is just one of the changes being made to the Reserve Wing at Barksdale AFB. The 917th Wing will be deactivated, and the 307th Bomb Wing reactivated in ceremonies at Hoban Hall on Barksdale AFB, Jan. 8, 2011. In addition to those changes, the 917th Operations Group will be re-designated as the 917th Fighter Group in the same ceremonies. Both Airmen belong to the Regular Air Force and are part of Total Force Enterprise, a Barksdale success story, where Reserve Airmen work side-by-side with their Regular Air Force counterparts. Airman Williams and Sergeant Miles work in the sheet metal shop at the 917th Wing. Although the equipment and personnel assigned to the 917 FG will remain at Barksdale, command and control for the unit will fall under the 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.
