93rd BS FTU graduates Class 10-03
Capt. Russel Kirklin, a Pilot Distinguished Graduate for Formal Training Unit Class 10-03, poses for a photo with Col. Thomas P. Hesterman, the 2nd Bomb Wing vice commander, during graduation ceremonies in Hoban Hall at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., March 11, 2011. The Distinguished Graduate Award is a culmination of academics tests, flight evaluation, officership, attitude and professional bearing. Students selected for the award have demonstrated a level of performance that is clearly above their peers. There is usually only one awarded for each specialty. Class 10-03 had a tie between two students for Aircraft Commander (Pilot) DG. Captain Kirklin tied for the award with Capt. Nicole Redmond. Graduates of the 93rd Bomb Squadron's Formal Training Unit covered several aspects of B-52H Stratofortress operations during their training, which lasted approximately two years. The FTU is in charge of training Airmen to fly the B-52. To accomplish this task of forging new aviators into Combat Ready B-52 crewmembers takes the work of both AF Reserve and Active Duty Members. Twenty-four students graduated from Class 10-03 and will now report for duty to squadrons throughout the B-52 community. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
