11th BS welcomes new commander
Members of the Barksdale Air Force Base Honor Guard post the colors during the 11th Bomb Squadron Change of Command ceremony at Hoban Hall on Barksdale AFB, June 23, 2011. Colonel John M. Vitacca, commander, 2nd Operations Group, presided over the ceremony where Lt. Col. W. Heath Wharton, accepted command of the 11th BS. Colonel Wharton took the reins of the 11th BS from Lt. Col. Kieran T. Denehan, who is headed to California for his next assignment. The 11th BS works alongside the 93rd Bomb Squadron as partners in the B-52 Formal Training Unit at Barksdale, which trains flight crews for the B-52 Stratofortress. To accomplish this task of forging new aviators into Combat Ready B-52 crewmembers takes the work of both AF Reserve and Active Duty Members. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
