11th BS welcomes new commander

With the passing of the guidon from Colonel John M. Vitacca, commander, 2nd Operations Group, Lt. Col. W. Heath Wharton, accepts command of the 11th Bomb Squadron during the change of command ceremony held Thursday, June 23, 2011, in Hoban Hall at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. Colonel Wharton took the reins of the 11th BS from Lt. Col. Kieran T. Denehan, (far right) who is headed to California for his next assignment. The 11th BS works alongside the 93rd Bomb Squadron as partners in the B-52 Formal Training Unit at Barksdale, which trains flight crews for the B-52 Stratofortress. To accomplish this task of forging new aviators into Combat Ready B-52 crewmembers takes the work of both AF Reserve and Active Duty Members. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
