Air Force highlights Texas Air Shows

Noel Rather, pilot, watches as Michael Barnett, quality assurance and quality control, Jet Center of Tyler, slowly adjusts the valves that supply nitrogen to his L-29 Delphin at the at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport in Tyler, Texas, July 3, 2011. Rather is a former captain with the U.S. Air Force, and was preparing his aircraft to participate in the “Wings Over Texas Air Show.” Nitrogen is used in older model aircraft for braking systems and for maintaining pressurization of some cockpits. The Areo L-29 Delphin is a military jet trainer aircraft that became the standard jet trainer for the air forces of the Warsaw Pact nations in the 1960s. It was Czechoslovakia’s first locally designed and built jet aircraft. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
