Air Force highlights Texas Air Shows

Chris Avery prepares his the F4U Corsair for takeoff during the “Wings Over Tyler Air Show” at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, in Tyler, Texas, July 3, 2011. In addition to being a featured solo performer at the air show, Avery flew the Corsair in the “Tora! Tora! Tora!” performance, which recreates the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Designed as a living history lesson, “Tora, Tora, Tora” is intended as a memorial to all the soldiers on both sides who gave their lives for their countries. Avery is a former U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. and Scout Sniper. He plans to fly about 16 air shows this year. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
