Barksdale continues to cut its losses
Tommy Swieter, a landscaping specialist for Rushing Technical Services, Cabot Ark., keeps tension on a rope tied to a limb on a dead tree at the 307th Bomb Wing Headquarters building on Barksdale Air Force Base, La., June 19, 2012. Swieter’s hold on the rope will keep the limb from falling into power lines once the cut is made. Due to the 2011 drought season and the warmest spring on record, hundreds of trees on Barksdale have died. Efforts are being made to clear the trees on the main base and in the housing areas. To date, workers for RTS have cleared approximately 30 trees off the main base. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Jeff Walston)
