Local school receives national recognition
Eric James, a multimedia journalist with KTBS Channel 3 in Shreveport, La., records footage for a news story about the Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School at the STARBASE Louisiana facility on Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Oct. 23, 2012. Claiborne was selected as a 2102 National Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education. The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students' levels of achievement. The Department will honor approximately 219 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C. The Claiborne students are attending STARBASE Louisiana, one of 60 national STARBASE sites. It is sponsored by the 307th Bomb Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command. The program presents an exciting 25-hour hands on/minds on aviation and aerospace curriculum to area 5th grade students and their teachers. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Jeff Walston)
