Local school receives national recognition

Eric James, multimedia journalist, KTBS Channel 3, interviews Christy Bucker, technology coordinator/instructor, STARBASE Louisiana, at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Oct. 23, 2012. James was working on a journalistic series about the Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School being selected as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education. The Department will honor approximately 219 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C. The Claiborne students are attending STARBASE Louisiana, at Barksdale, one of 60 national STARBASE sites. It is sponsored by the 307th BW of the Air Force Reserve Command. The STARBASE program presents an exciting 25-hour hands on/minds on aviation and aerospace curriculum to area 5th grade students and their teachers. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt.
