Colonel for a day
Honorary Colonel Hunter Tomlin waves to his parents and a crowd below from the cockpit of his own B-52 Stratofortress at Barksdale Air Force base, La., April 24, 2013. Hunter, who has Neurofibromatosis Type 1, also known as von Recklinghausen disease, is recovering from surgery performed to remove a tumor from his face that hindered his ability to breathe through his nose. Members of the 307th AMXS and 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron made Hunter’s dream come true by presenting him with an Air Force uniform, a tour of a B-52 Stratofortress and mementos of his visit to Barksdale. He was made an honorary colonel and B-52 crew chief during his visit. The honorary positions just might make Hunter the youngest, if not only, honorary colonel, honorary crew chief in the United States Air Force. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Jeff Walston)
