More A-10s leave Barksdale
U.S. Air Force Col. John Breazeale, commander, 917th Fighter Group, salutes Chief Master Sgt. Cary Johnson, and Senior Master Sgt. Mike Thornton, as he taxis his A-10 Thunderbolt II at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., June 3, 2013. Colonel Breazeale is piloting one of six A-10s being transferred to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., that day. Johnson is currently the superintendent for the 917th Fighter Group, and Thornton is the production superintendent for the 917th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Years before, Johnson was the assistant crew chief for Thornton while he was the dedicated crew chief on that aircraft. The transfer of the A-10s from Barksdale is due to the recent Force Structure Action Implementation Plan that dictates the 917th FG at Barksdale will be inactivated this year on the last day of September.
