Last three A-10s depart Barksdale
Maj. Mark Wendrock, who is a pilot assigned to the 47th Fighter Squadron, taxis his A-10 Thunderbolt II through a water salute after a short ceremony marking the departure of the last three A-10 Thunderbolt II jet aircraft from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., June 24, 2013. Wendrock is piloting one of the last three A-10s being transferred to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. Approximately 200 people gathered on the flight line to watch the sendoff. The transfer of the A-10s from Barksdale is due to the recent Force Structure Action Implementation Plan that dictates the 917th Fighter Group at Barksdale will be inactivated this year on the last day of September.
