307th BW saves taxpayer dollars
Senior Airman Brad Morgan, a knowledge operations management journeyman, holds a piece of metal steady as Tech. Sgt. Christopher Collins, an electric power production technician prepares to mark it for cutting, so it can be secured to an awning structure at the 307th Bomb Wing Headquarters building at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Aug. 18, 2011. Both Airmen are assigned to the 307th Civil Engineer Squadron at Barksdale AFB. Routine maintenance and repairs at the 307th BW are now accomplished by the Airmen of the 307th CES. Letting Traditional Reservists maintain their own buildings gives them the opportunity to take ownership and pride in their facilities, saving taxpayer dollars and allowing the Airmen to continue their skills training. Following an $18,000 bid to repair the main entrance awning at the 307th BW, a decision was made to allow 307th CES Airmen to replace the material awning with a more durable longer lasting metal one. After the cost of materials and labor, the projected savings to American taxpayers is approximately $16,000. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Jeff Walston)
