NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Louisiana Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, announced that on Saturday, February 13, 2015 National Chair Paul Mock presented the ESGR James M. Roche Spirit of Volunteerism Award to Louisiana Chair Emeritus Jack Humphries. The presentation took place at the Hilton Riverside hotel as part of the Annual ESGR volunteer training. This was a formal presentation for the award by the National Chair to honor Humphries. All the volunteers present praised the current member and former Chair for his long and distinguished service to ESGR.
Jack Humphries commented "I am honored to receive this award from ESGR with the full understanding that it is a team effort by all the wonderful volunteers across the great state of Louisiana that make this award. I accept this award on their behalf and in honor of all the great work we have done and will do in the future."
The James M. Roche Spirit of Volunteerism Award is the highest award given to a Committee volunteer for sustained quality service as a volunteer over a substantial period of years. The award highlights patriotism, good citizenship, and public responsibility; often achieved by great effort and personal sacrifice.
A portion of the award reads. Under his inspirational leadership, the Louisiana Committee achieved new milestones in mission accomplishments. During his tenure as Louisiana State Chair he was responsible for 4,361 Statement of Support Signings (A 700% increase over the last 6 years), 390 ombudsman cases being worked and 1,787 Patriot Awards being issued. As the current area Chair for the Northeast Louisiana following his tenure as State Chairman, he is the driving force in making sure soldiers and employers are recognized all across Northeast Louisiana. He also coordinate the annual ULM Military Day football activities for ESGR.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service.
