Airmen of the 307th Maintenance Group (MXG) provided new coats for needy kids to the KSLA News 12 Porter’s Cleaners Coats for Kids drive.  The 91 coat were presented at the station on Dec. 18.

“When KSLA announced that they were having their annual Coats for Kids drive and I thought it would be a great opportunity for the group to come together to do something worthwhile for a great cause,” said Senior Master Sgt. Tefnie Devers, the superintendent of Maintenance Operations for the 307th MXG, who coordinated the drive. “So we challenged the men and women …to help make the drive a huge success and they did just that.” The MXG received donated 15 used coats and enough monetary donations to purchase 76 coats in nine days. These coats will be going to children in the local area that would otherwise be without.

“Our hope is that these coats will be beneficial to the children that receive them and keep them warm this winter,” said Lt. Col. Dwayne Slack, 307 MXG vice commander.  This is the 27th year for the local drive to have handed out thousands of coats to needy kids.

“As Citizen Airmen of the 307th Bomb Wing it is our honor and privilege to support the community that helps to support us. Shreveport/Bossier does so much for the men and women of the 307th,” Lt. Col. Leo Kamphaus, the commander of the 307th MXG, explained. “It’s a great opportunity for us to give a little something back.”

If you would like to donate a new or gently used coat, donations are being taken until Dec. 31, 2015 at any Porter’s Fine Dry Cleaners location or at the KSLA News 12 Station, 1812 Fairfield Avenue, Shreveport.
