Scientists protect aircrews against nuclear flash
A scientist from a research lab tries on the PLZT flash blindness goggles on May 15, 2015, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. The Polarized Lead Zirconium Titanate flash blindness goggles protect pilots from nuclear flash blindness by instantly going dark. During daylight without the goggles a pilot could experience temporary blindness for about 2 minutes. At night a pilot could experience night blindness for up to 10 minutes and this temporary condition could affect the pilot’s control of the aircraft. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt.
