A crowd of Reserve Citizen Airmen and local civic leaders welcomed Eric Barkley as the new 307th Bomb Wing honorary commander during an induction ceremony here, Jan. 7, 2023.

Barkley took an immersion tour of the wing and expressed his gratitude for the chance to serve the day prior to his induction.

“I just want thank you for everything that you do and it is an honor to be part of the wing,” Barkley told one group of Airmen during the tour.

Barkley is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and recently retired from CenterPoint Energy. He most recently served as the company’s North Louisiana director.

Barkley has a history of volunteerism in the military community, having served as President of the Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs Council and the Shreveport Bossier Committee of 100.

In addition to military volunteerism, Barkley served as Chairman of the United Way of Louisiana, the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, the Independence Bowl Foundation, and the Bossier Chamber of Commerce.

The honorary commander program is an official Air Force program designed to create opportunities to educate the public on mission, programs, and policies of the United States Air Force and the Department of Defense.
