The roar of A-10 aircraft filled the flight line Thursday morning, Dec. 15, when 10 New Orleans warthogs geared up to return home. The cajuns and their aircraft relocated to Barksdale AFB and the 917th Wing after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the New Orleans coastline back in August. The return home officially began once the planes were in the air and safely on their way home, according to Col. Reginald Stroud, 926th Fighter Wing Maintenance Group commander.

“It’s always a good feeling to go home,” he said. “The 917th Wing has been nothing short of outstanding. They treated us like family, and they did it with such style.”

“We are pleased to have been able to help the 926th over the past few months during a very difficult time for the unit and its members,” said Brig. Gen. (S) Bob Tarter, 917th Wing commander. “We remain committed to help them in any way necessary.”
