Chief bids Wing 'Adieu' Published April 10, 2006 By Chief Master Sgt. Marion Aaberg 917th Military Personnel Flight 917th Wing, Barksdale AFB, La. -- I want to take this opportunity to express that it has been an honor to serve one of the Air Force Reserve’s most historic and respected units. For 34 years, I have had the pleasure of working with active-duty and Reserve enlisted members, officers and civilians of the 917th Wing and Barksdale AFB. You have accomplished more than just the mission entrusted. This unit has achieved many firsts and been in the forefront of ingenuity, creativity and brute force dedication throughout its history. You have contributed to this unit’s legacy of selfless service. Look to the future as the Air Force and Department of Defense institute transition. Prepare for this change, and position yourself through quality training, professional development, self-improvement and physical conditioning. Establish high goals, and accomplish each task with consistent integrity. You have heard of the concept about taking care of your wingman. This is not just applicable to the flyers. Help others, especially those who are at the start of their career with the Reserve, as they and you are the future. Together through teamwork, selfless dedication, strong ethics, creative thinking and flexibility, each of you will play an intricate part of these futuristic changes. You and your wingman could potentially create development of aerospace technology not yet conceived. It has been my privilege and honor to work with this team. I am proud of your accomplishments. You have my deepest respect, as you continue to carry the Air Force Reserve’s proud tradition of excellence into the future.
