Summer safety: Wing participates in 180-day campaign Published April 10, 2006 By Master Sgt. Harry Bauer 917th Wing Safety Barksdale AFB, La. -- You’ve all heard of the 101 Critical Days campaign, but may you not be aware that 8th Air Force extended the campaign to a full 180 days from April 1 to Oct. 1. Our unit is actively participating in this campaign. The emphasis is on summer safety, particularly personal risk management during off-duty recreational activities. The theme of this campaign is, “It’s on you”, meaning personal responsibility is the foundation for a safe summer. We’ll focus on this during our supervisors’ and commanders’ preparation for Safety Day in May, but in the meantime, please echo this theme when you talk safety in your units. Last summer we saw a major spike in all forms of off-duty and on-duty mishaps, especially motorcycle mishaps. This year, 8 AF is providing monthly posters for flight, maintenance, ground, and weapons safety. These will be forwarded to all commanders and safety representatives.
