Mike Rowlands hits a base hit, bringing fellow teammate Rodney Jones home, the final run for the 917th Logistics Readiness Squadron, marking a 9-5 victory in softball against the 717th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Saturday, July 8, at the Barksdale ball fields.
This win comes on the heels of a double-elimination victory by the 717th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron just last month, where they defeated both the 917 AMXS and the 917th Maintenance Squadron.

With the score tied at 4-4 at the bottom of the fourth, Terry Miller hits a ball downfield to bring Dan Hubbard home. Score is 5-4, LRS. Terry Miller follows, with a run to home plate, bringing the score to 6-4, LRS.

The competition heats up in the top of the fifth after an out call was contested. The pressure lifts, and the 717 AMXS goes on to make a run when Vic Goff hits to bring Dave Long home. Score is 6-5 LRS.

The 917 LRS turns the heat up in the bottom of the fifth with two runs by Jody Kaiser and Devin Hubbard. Score is 8-5 LRS.

One final run is made by Rodney Jones to make the score 9-5 LRS.

The top of the sixth shows no mercy to the 717 AMXS when Hollis Reeves hits a pop-up foul caught by Margaret Maffett, 917 LRS catcher and lone female on the team. The team’s fate is sealed when Randy Sorrell hits a ball down center, caught by the second baseman, bringing Dwight Meese’s run to second to a halt.

No need for any play in the bottom of the sixth, and the 917 LRS walks away victorious with a final score of 9-5.
