A 30-minute rain delay wasn't enough to stop the 917th Wing from claiming the intramural golf championship over the 2d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Monday,
Aug. 7.

The Wing, also the regular season champions, were able to pull out the win without their top player, Josh Wendt.

"It was terribly difficult without him there. Josh is one of, if not the best player we have - it was tougher without him," said Wing player Mike Wood. "But what's neat about the scramble format is you rely on your partner and that helps."

The Wing was atop the standings the entire season and was looking forward to the playoffs starting.

"The 917th has been up there in contention the last few years," Wood said. "We had a good team this year, and we knew that."

The defending champions, 2AMXS, were the second place team in the league. Their coach, Josh Weiwel, said they were confident all season they could return to the finals.
"The better team won today," Josh said. "We didn't play up to our abilities."

Though confident of his team, Mike (Wood) ended with saying there was, "a little bit of luck involved."
