Employees with Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers restaurants in the Shreveport-Bossier area provided a chicken fingers lunch for more than 400 of the 917th Wing personnel on the job Friday, June 5, 2009, before the scheduled Unit Training Assembly weekend.

The lunch was a welcome surprise to the 917th Airmen, and the reason Raising Cane's supplied it - just supporting the troops.

"As our company has evolved from a small brand trying to get world recognition, one of the things we changed in our business statement is to become actively involved in the community. With that, (the company) has given more responsibilities to individual general managers in their markets," said Jack "Bump" Skaggs, general manager, Raising Cane's #26 on Youree Drive.

"We've never really gotten to touch Barksdale Air Force Base and all the men and women out here who serve our country every day," Skaggs said. "So, about two months ago we got the project underway with the help of the Public Affairs Office and today it kind of came to tuition here."

Lunch consisted of chicken fingers, toast, coleslaw, tea and Cane's famous mini-cubed ice.

Billy Wayne Montgomery, former representative to the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 9 (Bossier Parish), Brig. Gen. (Ret) Jack Ihle, former 917th Wing Commander and Chief Master Sgt. Jack M. Skaggs, former 917th Wing Command Chief Master Sgt., were in attendance at the lunch and helped with serving the meal.

Chief Skaggs wandered through the crowd passing out his signature candy bringing a smile to all who had a sweet tooth.

After lunch, the Raising Cane's employees were given a close-up look at the A-10 Thunderbolt, B-52 Stratofortress by 917th personnel.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers employees who provided the lunch were Jack Skaggs, Pete John, Alex Troegel, Chelsy Sistrunck and Mathew Snyder.
