The 93rd Bomb Squadron welcomed a new commander, Lt. Col. Joseph Jones, during a change of command ceremony held Sunday, August 2, 2009, at the 93rd Bomb Squadron, at Barksdale Air Force Base, La.

Colonel Jones took the reins from Colonel Select Keith Schultz, who is leaving the 93rd BS to take a position with the Pacific Air Forces at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

Colonel Jones, who is also an Internal Medicine Physician, at Tri State Medical Clinic in Shreveport, La., becomes the 9th commander of the 93rd BS at Barksdale. He will be the first who is also a doctor.

Colonel Robert J. Nordberg, commander, 917th Operations Group, 917th Wing, Barksdale AFB, La., officiated during the ceremony. He praised both the out-going and in-coming commanders on the teamwork and professionalism displayed over the past year in getting the 93rd BS ready for future transitions in its missions.

The 93rd BS recently was given primary responsibility for the Air Force's B-52 formal training mission after receiving 11 additional B-52s, approximately 320 maintainers and 40 operations personnel from the 2nd Bomb Wing. This move placed the 93rd in a partnership with the Regular Air Force under the total force initiative.
