Another former enlisted Airman accepted command responsibilities at the 917th Wing, when Maj. Michael R. Davis assumed command of the 717th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron during ceremonies at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Sunday, August 2, 2009.

With the speaking of four words, "Sir, I assume command," Maj. Davis followed in the footsteps of his predecessor, Lt. Col. Chris D. Evers, who also started his military career as an enlisted Airman.

Presiding Officer, Lt. Col. Jeffrey S. Mullen, 917th Maintenance Group commander, commented, (Colonel Evers) didn't just maintain the reputation of the 717th AMXS, but took it to new heights during his tenure as commander.

"That's what he's done," Colonel Mullen said. "His accomplishments are a testament to his leadership."

In closing comments, Colonel Evers praised Maj. Davis for his hard work in getting to where he is today and told him, "this is the hardest job you'll ever love."

In his first speech as commander of the 717th AMXS, Maj. Davis applauded the dedicational and patriotism of 717th personnel. He emphasized the fact that he "is ready for the job."

Maj. Davis also took a moment to thank his "foundation," his family and friends for their support throughout his life and career.

"I want to thank my mother," Maj. Davis said. "I am what I am because of her."
