The Fourth of July is more than just a day off for many Americans across this great country. It is a day in which we celebrate our independence. For those of us whom has ever worn the uniform or is still wearing the uniform, it means celebrating the freedom that we have sworn to defend with our life if need be.

For those in the rock band Styx, it means honoring the men and women serving the nation at home and overseas.

The Air Force Reserve Command offered a concert free for all members of the Armed Services and their immediate families July 4, 2010.

The event was held at the CenturyTel Center and was emceed by Billy Bretherton from the hit show "Billy the Exterminator".

Col. John J. Mooney III, commander, 917th Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., opened the show with a special thanks to the legendary rock band and those who took the time to attend the event on Independence Day.

In front of a crowd of approximately 3,700, Styx performed a two hour concert as their way of saying thank you to members of the military stationed at Barksdale AFB, Fort Polk Army Base, and other surrounding installations.

"We really enjoyed the Styx concert," said Marlene Teekell, 917th Operations Group, secretary. "It brought back some great memories and it was a neat experience to share with my co-workers and family. Thank you!" Mrs. Teekell is married to Staff Sgt. Stephen Teekell, who is a field training detachment instructor with the 372nd Training Squadron, Detachment 5, at Barksdale AFB La.

The AFRC "Tour for the Troops" program's Northern Louisiana event proved to be a memorable one for all those who attended, both young and old.
