Airmen at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., stood fast as flowers were posted at the 2nd Bomb Wing Headquarters building flag pole and had a moment of silence during reveille Sept. 9, 2011.

The 9/11 Reveille and Wreath Laying Ceremony was held to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on the United States, Sept. 11, 2001, as well as both the military and civilian lives lost since then.

The ceremony, which included the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner and the placing of the flowers, also included a moment of silence for reflection of those past and present who have served and defended the United States.

Sept. 11, 2001, is an important day in history for Barksdale, since President George Bush stopped here in Air Force One to make remarks to the nation.

Although the 9/11 Reveille and Wreath Laying Ceremony at Barksdale did not include remarks of any kind, the silence spoke volumes of the sacrifices that were made and continue to be made by Barksdale Airmen and their families, as well as those made by Service members across the United States and abroad.

Brig. Gens. Keith Kries, the mobilization assistant to the Eighth Air Force commander and John J. Mooney III, the commander of the 307th Bomb Wing, were on hand to assist in the placing of the flowers.
