The 307 LRS Fuels Management Flight at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., has brought home the 2011 Golden Derrick Award for the Air Force Reserve Command.

After back-to-back wins in 2010 and 2011, as "Best Fuels Flight in 10th Air Force," the Airmen of the 307 LRS Fuels Management Flight finally won the award, which recognizes the best fuels management operation in the Air Force Reserve Command.

"I am extremely proud of our Fuels Management Flight," said Maj. Silke A. Tietje, the commander of the 307th Logistics Readiness Squadron. "Winning Best Fuels Flight in 10 AF 2 years in a row is quite an accomplishment and a well deserved honor."

"The flight has overcome manning and training issues to get them to where they are today, indicative of the outstanding leadership within the flight," Tietje said.

An inspection team consisting of Col. Robert Straw, Chief, Logistics Readiness, and John Campbell, chief, Fuels Management Section from Headquarters AFRC at Robins Air Force Base, Ga., made a site visit to the 307th Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB, on March 3, 2012, to determine how the Fuels Management Flight performed over the course of the year.

According to Campbell, the main competition for the Barksdale unit came from the 934th Fuels Flight from Minneapolis-St Paul Air Reserve Station.

During the inspection team's visit, they observed refueling operations, a refueler checkpoint and conducted fuels facility inspections. Fueling programs were also inspected and the inspection team attended a monthly safety briefing.

"This is another example of our 307th Mission Support Group professionals performing their duties in an outstanding manner," said Col. Kevin Wolfe, the commander of the 307th Mission Support Group. "We don't have any full-time personnel in this area, and that makes this honor that much more impressive"
