Military service comes with an incredible sense of family, but also with additional stressors. Without a clear understanding of purpose or place in life, dealing with these stressors can be more difficult.
“A healthy spiritual fitness is important because it helps others find purpose and meaning to their lives,” said Chaplain (Capt.) Mitchell Holley, 2nd Bomb Wing chaplain.
As one of the four pillars of a healthy comprehensive fitness, it’s important for Airmen to find ways to discover, strengthen and express their spirituality.
“At the recent commander’s call, the wing commander spoke about how we have to put in the work as individual Airmen to get connected,” said Maj. Andrew Caulk, 2nd Bomb Wing public affairs chief. “Church or other philosophical communities provide those critical connections that we require as humans. Even for those, like me, whose philosophy is not faith-based, the chance to reflect and build community helps me to focus my life on what matters most.”
Air Force chaplains provide services to Airmen and families with both faith-based and non-faith based churches, services counseling and more.
“If we find someone who is looking for a service that we may not have, we first discuss their background,” Holley said. “Then we look up nearby services and help them find resources to fulfill their needs.”
