His impact on technology in the Air Force goes all the way back to 1999, when he was still an Aerospace Ground Equipment mechanic. In that year, he created a self-inspection database that was adopted service wide. The effort helped his unit at the time, the 917th Wing, win the Air Force Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award. Ahbol was responsible for setting up the first ever computer network in the 917th Wing before it deactivated. Once the 307th Bomb Wing was reactivated in place of the 917th Wing, Ahbol continued to monitor and expand the network, standing up the first Reserve Mission in the Air Force Network Operations Center.
